A first step for the Saïss irrigation network
The first phase of the hydro-agricultural development project aimed at safeguarding the Saïss plain was commissioned at the beginning of July. The irrigation infrastructure is supplied by the waters of the M’Dez dam, located in the province of Sefrou.
This first phase concerns approximately 10,000 hectares of agricultural land. It constitutes the first stage of a broader program aimed at securing irrigation in the region and reducing pressure on the Saïss groundwater table.
A system designed to secure water supply
The project is based on a water transfer system from the M’Dez dam to the agricultural plain. Ultimately, all of the infrastructure is expected to make it possible to irrigate nearly 30,000 hectares and ensure better water management in this agricultural area of the Fès-Meknès region.
The first phase includes in particular:
- the installation of large-diameter pipes
- the establishment of a distribution network
- the installation of irrigation outlets to supply agricultural plots
The objective is to ensure a more reliable distribution of water, while promoting the use of water-saving irrigation systems.
The commissioning of this first phase therefore marks a new step in the rollout of the Saïss plain preservation program and in improving water management in the region.
